Beyond excited to bring you this beauty below for this weeks S.O.S Woman of The Week. She does not only share a name with my mom, Ms. Loretta is taking this world by storm. I have known her for a couple of years now and absolutely adore her. Check out the interview below to see why. 🙂
Name: Loretta Perkins
Occupation: Merchant Development Representative at Groupon
Inspired by: Darlene Perkins
Which movie character you identify with and why?
-I identify mostly with the actress Jennifer Lawrence, specifically her role as Katniss in the Hunger Games, because she is bold, sassy and is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in even if it’s the more uncommon opinion.
In today’s world you can not go anywhere without seeing someone on their smartphone. Some say that texting is not a good way to communicate. What do you think?
I agree, everywhere I go whether I am in the mall, grocery store, even on lunch at work people cannot seem to break away from their cell phone. I believe that you have to disconnect to connect, meaning you have to break away from those things that distract you, individuals on social media, to connect with the people who really matter in your life. Honestly, If I am having a conversation with someone and they are too distracted by their cell phone I’ll simply stop talking and stare at them until they realize how rude they are being. But that’s just me.
My S.O.S series is not just about being single and alone, you definitely can be dating or even in a relationship. What part of your season are you in now?
To be honest Tiffany, I love being single. I love being able to pick up and hit the road when I please, to spoil myself and fully focus on my wants and needs. I am stingy with my love and I love myself too much to just give it, my love, away to just anyone. I am currently finding out myself at the moment, can I be anymore cliché’?, and If a nice guy comes along and asks me out on a date I wont necessarily turn him down but he’s has to be one hell of a guy to get my attention. I just like my freedom.
I have personally traveled to different states solo dolo & even took myself on dates. Where are some places you love to go alone? What activities do you love to do that you can give our readers who are currently looking to do solo dolo?
I absolutely love traveling! It is one of the most rewarding and valuable experiences you can give yourself. I too have traveled many places by myself such as: Miami, Houston, hell I even got lost in Rome on my study abroad and had a ball! But seriously, being alone doesn’t make me lonely. I love going to the movies by myself and not having to worry about anyone talking in my ear while I’m enjoying a good show, going out to eat and going absolutely crazy on a delicious meal without worrying about how I may be perceive and going to comedy shows in my city and enjoying myself. I do a lot of activities alone and I’ve never felt more complete.
Loretta you are young but very mature for your age if I may say so myself. Can you think of any challenges you have ran across while being on your S.O.S thus far?
Thank you Tiffany, I really appreciate that! One of my biggest challenges so far is the pressure from society that my life is not as full/complete or inadequate because I do not have a man in my life. I’ve had moments where I question and doubt my worth because I would think “If I am such this amazing person, why haven’t anyone realize that and swept me off my feet?” But I’ve come to realize that a strong, independent black woman is someone that most guys are not mature enough to handle in my age group. I do not need someone to save, sponsor nor rescue me but to love, uplift and willing to build a life with me. All things that are hard to find nowadays.
What are some qualities women are lacking that you feel the reason they have not embrace their S.O.S yet?
I feel that this goes back to my previous answer with society’s high expectation that woman are not complete unless they have a man. Woman have been brainwashed for years that, at the end of the day, or ultimate goal is marriage. Whereas men have been placed on a different pedestal to sow their wild oats until they find a woman worth settling floor. This miscommunication and complete different style of raising is why we find most women living in unfaithful and uncommitted relationships with men who just cant seem to get on the same page. It’s time to change the system.
You are a very successful young woman. Some men are intimidated by an independent woman that has soared in her career. Do you think your success will stop your love life from flourishing? Why or why not?
Thank you for the lovely compliment, I believe your success is very dominant as well. I do not think my success will hinder my love life but it definitely makes it more of a challenge. Thankfully, I am in an industry, sales , that is becoming more and more dominant by women and men in my industry are starting to realize that too.
Shallow much? I would say I’m big on looks and appearance . If the man can not dress, I’m really not interested. How important are looks and appearance to you?
I believe its important to keep yourself up and making sure you are putting your best foot forward every time you walk out the door. If a man dresses well, smells great, and have a beautiful smile I am more incline to react positive when he approaches me. If he can make me laugh he gets major cool points from me!
I sometimes go off the grid when life gets too much. During that time the television is off, I grab a book and my favorite snacks. What are some things you do to relax?
Similar, I usually read a lot or go for a walk to clear my head. Sometimes I just need to talk it out to realize that the issues that I am going through are not as bad as I make them out to be. Whether that’s talking to my friends, my sister or God after getting things off my chest I am usually able to get back on my feet again. I may pick up Yoga soon but I’m afraid I may hurt myself!
Have you seen the meme out there judging women on wearing makeup all the time? I personally do not wear makeup unless I’m going out for the night now. Most men say they love a girl who is natural, do you believe that? Why or why not?
I personally do not wear makeup unless I am going out as well and even then its only lipstick or lip gloss. I am not against make up I just appreciate our natural beauty more than anything. Now make up is an excellent way to enhance those features but I personally think it’s a hassle, and huge bill, to invest the amount of time and energy into putting a paintbrush on God’s masterpiece.
Maxwell was in Michigan recently and if I was not in a relationship I would have been a groupie. Lol! Guuurrrrl he is my number one celebrity crush. Who is yours?
Lmao!! Girl I understand, my celebrity crush is between Morris Chestnut and the actor Michael B. Jordan. I think they are both two handsome black men and I would be first in line if either of them made a trip out to Chi town!
